What microneedling does
As the fine needles create micro-injuries across the skin, the body immediately begins to repair. Fibroblasts are activated, collagen synthesis increases, and new, healthy skin cells are generated. Over the weeks that follow, the skin visibly firms, texture smooths, pores refine, and tone becomes more even. For clients dealing with fine lines, acne scarring, dullness, enlarged pores, uneven pigmentation or loss of elasticity, microneedling works at the level where real change happens within the dermis itself, not just at the surface. A course of treatments typically delivers the most significant results, as the cumulative collagen response builds with each session.
The Luminate Barn protocol where we go further
At Luminate Barn, microneedling is never a standalone procedure. Every treatment is followed by our restorative post-needling protocol, designed to amplify your results, calm the skin, and support deep healing from the moment the session ends. Immediately after needling, we apply a deeply hydrating hyaluronic acid cooling mask. With the skin’s microchannels still open, the hyaluronic acid is absorbed at a level that would be impossible through intact skin flooding the dermis with moisture, calming inflammation, and supporting the skin barrier as it begins its repair process. The cooling sensation soothes redness and discomfort, leaving the skin feeling settled and nourished rather than raw and reactive.
We then finish with Dermalux LED light therapy using our clinical-grade infrared panel. Infrared light penetrates deeply into the tissue, stimulating cellular energy production, accelerating fibroblast activity, and ignificantly reducing post-treatment inflammation and downtime.
The procedure itself typically takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on the areas being treated, followed by your mask and LED session. Most clients experience some redness immediately afterwards, similar in appearance to mild sunburn, which settles within 24 to 48 hours. Skin often looks and feels noticeably smoother within a week, with the deeper collagen-building benefits continuing to develop over the following four to six weeks.
Contraindications
Microneedling is not suitable for everyone. We are unable to treat you if any of the following apply: Active acne, open wounds, cold sores or any active skin infection in the treatment area. Current use of Roaccutane or isotretinoin, or within the last 12 months. Blood thinning medications or clotting disorders. A history of keloid scarring or poor wound healing. Pregnancy or breastfeeding. Rosacea in an active flare. Eczema or psoriasis in the treatment area. Recent sunburn or very recent sun exposure. Certain autoimmune conditions or compromised immunity. Any injectable treatment such as filler or botulinum toxin within the last two weeks.

Aftercare
The 24 to 48 hours following your treatment are an important window for your skin. Please follow these guidelines to protect your results and support healing. Avoid touching the face unnecessarily and keep the skin clean. Use only gentle, unfragranced products no active ingredients such as retinol, AHAs, BHAs, vitamin C or exfoliants for a minimum of five days. Avoid heat no saunas, steam rooms, hot showers, intense exercise or sunbeds for at least 48 hours. Apply SPF every morning without exception, even if you are not planning to be outdoors. Avoid swimming pools, particularly chlorinated water, for at least 48 hours. Do not apply makeup for the first 24 hours if possible, and use clean brushes when you do resume. Keep the skin hydrated with a gentle, nourishing moisturiser and drink plenty of water to support the healing process from within.
Some flaking or mild dryness in the days following treatment is completely normal and is a sign that the skin is renewing. Resist the urge to pick or exfoliate let the skin shed naturally.
